Whether you’re racing your local, slaying Whistler or standing atop a World Cup podium, Operators are the ultimate machine
Designed to be highly tuneable and durable, the Beamer is Kona's version of greased lightning
Kona carbon places the highest emphasis on performance by putting the right fibres in the right areas
Go fast, take chances. The Operator defines downhill
Kona had one goal with the Operator CR: Win races. We’ve seen what 29" bikes can do on a downhill track, and the Operator CR is ready to take podiums. With two positions offering 15mm of rear wheel adjustments and 10mm of reach adjustment, it’s easier to control the feel of the bike to get the ride you want.
While the bike is specced as a 29er, you can run 27.5" wheels as well. Shorter or longer, 29" or 27.5", you have the power to customise your ride. Front and rear RockShox suspension and powerful SRAM Code brakes round out this innovative and wickedly fast race machine.
Designed to be lightweight and built to demanding standards. Carbon fibre has long been praised for its weight and strength, but rather than chase grams, Kona has placed its efforts on the performance that is possible when the right high-modulus fibres are in the right places. Its designers work closely with the manufacturer to ensure there is no compromise to the desired ride characteristics, durability and – finally – weight stipulations that Kona expects from its bikes.
Integrated headsets are simple, light and effective systems whereby the bearing race cups are part of the head tube, and they are either machined away and left with the head tube, bonded (carbon), or welded in with steel or alloy. Like an internal headset, an integrated headset also reduces stack height, so the height of the stem and bars are more adjustable, giving the rider the best fit possible.
Tapered head tube
More girth at the bottom of the head tube better distributes shock force, prolonging the bearing life of the headset and eliminating brake shudder, while providing confident steering performance. The inherent strength of its triangular design also means a stronger steering position and improved balance, giving the rider more control in rough terrain. A zero-stack, tapered head tube also puts strength where the load is going – into the lower headset cup – maximising bearing durability where it’s needed.
12x157 rear axle standards provide two major advantages to the Kona rider: The 12mm diameter of the rear axle provides the rear hub and frame with a stiff interface, while the 157mm outer diameter of the hub allows the wheel to be quickly and properly positioned in the frame before the rear axle is inserted.
Beamer independent suspension
Built to be off-the-top progressive, Beamer Independent Suspension helps the bike stay higher in the travel and recover from hits more quickly. The Operators are instilled with what Kona product managers like to call "pure shock movement", whereby the shock is protected from side load. Designed to be highly tuneable and extremely durable, the Beamer is Kona's version of greased lightning.
