Meet the next generation of Avinox. The new M2S and M2 drive units build on the groundbreaking original Avinox motor with more power, more torque, quieter running and less drag, all from virtually the same palm-sized package. The flagship M2S delivers up to 1500W and 150 Nm in Boost, while the M2 brings 1100W and 125 Nm to a wider range of bikes. Shop Avinox-powered e-MTBs from Megamo and Whyte at Evo Cycles, built to tackle the toughest terrain with maximum efficiency and control.

Both new drive units share the same compact chassis, quiet gearing, smart display and app features. The difference comes down to how much power you want on tap.
The flagship. Maximum performance.
All the next-gen refinement. Huge power.
The second-generation drive units keep the M1's palm-sized form factor almost exactly, but almost everything inside has been refined.
Peak power on the M2S (1500W vs 1000W)
Boost torque on the M2S (150 Nm vs 120 Nm)
Less drag when pedalling unassisted
Quieter running, with rattle significantly reduced
New dual-gear meshing and helical gears remove gear play, cutting out the rattle and pedal kickback noise some riders noticed on the first-generation unit.
A low-resistance sealed bearing replaces the previous high-resistance oil seal, reducing unassisted drag by 41% with the same level of protection. Riding above the assist limit or with the motor off feels noticeably more like a regular bike.
New cooling fins, internal temperature sensors and a heat-dissipating gear design help the motor hold its output for longer on sustained climbs, where the M1 was more likely to reduce power as it heated up.
The M2S offers 45.9% more power density and 21.6% more torque density than the M1, with only a small weight increase. Both new units are also more efficient than the original, so more of your battery goes into the trail.

The M2S and M2 keep the palm-sized Avinox chassis but push output further than ever. The M2S delivers up to 1500W and 150 Nm in Boost, with 130 Nm of continuous torque, while the M2 offers 1100W and 125 Nm. Using DJI's expertise in high-torque drone motors and thermal management, the new units add cooling fins, temperature monitoring and refined gearing, so you get explosive climbing power that holds up on long, steep ascents. They still disappear into the frame for a natural ride feel and a low centre of gravity.

The new 2-inch full-colour OLED touchscreen is built to stay readable in direct sunlight, wet and mud. Import routes from apps like Komoot for turn-by-turn navigation on the display, and use heart-rate-based assist to have the motor add support when your heart rate climbs. In the Avinox Ride app you can fine-tune each assist mode's start assist, overrun and maximum torque, set Boost to last between 10 and 60 seconds, and get health alerts for the drive system. Supported displays also add Apple Find My, Bluetooth auto-unlock and movement alerts for extra peace of mind.
The second-generation Avinox system uses high-energy-density cells to pack more watt-hours into less weight. Options include the integrated FP700 (700Wh, 3.18kg) and the removable RS800 (800Wh) and RS600 (600Wh), with dual-battery setups possible for big days out. With GaN fast charging, the FP700 goes from 0 to 80% in around 1 hour 16 minutes, so you spend less time plugged into a wall and more time on high-alpine loops that were previously out of reach. Exact battery options vary by bike model.

The 2027 Megamo Reason and Reason Air e-MTBs are powered by the new-generation Avinox motor. The 2027 Whyte Karve and Karve Evo also feature the new Avinox M2S drive unit. Earlier 2026 Megamo Reason models use the original Avinox M1, which still offers 105 Nm of continuous torque and 1000W peak power. Check each bike's specifications below for its exact motor and battery.
