It has come to our attention that there is a potential quality control issue affecting the 2021 Kona Lava Dome and Lana'i bikes. The potential issue affects the bottom bracket, which the cranks and pedals attach to. This bottom bracket can crack or snap while under load.
This applies to bikes sold from July 2020 to November 2020.
The bikes affected are limited to a specific frame number range, which can be located under the bottom bracket - please see the photo here for the Kona Frame Number Location.
The frame numbers potentially affected range between:
In order to ensure the safety and satisfaction of our customers, we invite you to get in touch with us so that we can remedy the issue by replacing the potentially faulty part. We have the replacement bottom brackets in stock at our dispatch centre and will be sending these out to your nearest EVO showroom once we have confirmation of a bottom bracket needing to be replaced. Once the part arrives it a relatively quick and easy fix.
Not all bikes within this frame number range are affected and the issue is specific to one type of bottom bracket used in the production of the Kona Lava Dome and Lana'i. If the bike has a grey cup - as shown in the photo here - then this is an unaffected unit. Our trained and qualified crew will be able to assess this for you either in person or through email and photos, whichever is most convenient for you.
We are genuinely sorry for the inconvenience.
If you are unable to return your bike for a replacement, then we will work with you on the most convenient way to assess and replace the bottom bracket, this could be arranging the collection and return to your address or working with a local service partner to carry the work out on our behalf.
Please complete the form below to organise a bottom bracket assessment.
