With longer days and warmer weather come more time on the bike! So what better time to upgrade the rubber on your ride. We caught up with some of the Evo crew to see what tyres they are rolling and why they love them.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS TYRE?

I have always been a fanboy of the old GP4000 and everything I'd seen on the new tyre is an improvement on it's predecessor.

They roll fast, don't cut up and are now available in tubeless-ready. In my view, they're the best all-round tyre for NZ roads. I've done 3k on mine now with minimal wear and tear.

I've found them great in all conditions, however, they are a noticeable improvement over the GP4000 in the wet, not that the 4000 was bad, it's just that the new GP5000 is next level.

Hands down the best road tyre on the market in my view.

What Tyres Are You Riding?

On all my bikes I am rolling Vittoria tyres. I commute on Vittoria Rubino Control G2.0 tyres, race on Vittoria Corsa G2.0 tyres and ride XC on Vittoria Mezcal G2.0 tyres. I'm very happy with the performance of the brand in all disciplines.

Commuting Tyre - Vittoria Rubino G2.0

My tyre of choice for my commute is the Vittoria Rubino Control G2.0. I find it offers the best compromise of puncture resistance, grip, high mileage and yet is still a fast tyre for bunch rides when the heat goes on.

Road Racing Tyre - Vittoria Corsa G2.0

For racing, I always roll the Vittoria Corsa G2.0. The supple 320tpi casing with graphene rubber offers a smooth comfortable ride that is grippy but super fast and awesome mileage for a race tyre. Love these tyres!

Cross Country Tyre - Vittoria Mezcal G2.0

The XC bike wears Vittoria Mezcal G2.0. These are super fast and offer amazing grip for a low tread XC tyre and the perfect choice for Marathon XC racing. In events like the Whaka 100, a Vittoria Barzo up front offers the ultimate combo with a Mezcal rear for grip and speed.

What Tyres Are You Riding?

Maxxis Minion DHF / Maxxis Minion DHR II on my Trek Remedy 9.8

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS TYRE?

They’re the gold standard in mountain bike tyre combos! I’m running a 2.5 Minion DHF up front which gives a low rolling resistance and amazing cornering traction. I particularly like the float zone between the centre knobs and the side knobs as it gives incredible grip when you lay them over quickly into a corner. As a rear tyre, I’m running a 2.4 DHR II which I find provides a strong bite when braking and good grip on a loose climb.

Overall I find them to be a super versatile combo to run year-round, with predictable grip in the wet & dry.
