Daylight Saving Cancelled: A Huge Win for Kiwi Cyclists!

Cyclists across New Zealand, rejoice! The government has made a groundbreaking decision to cancel daylight saving time from 2026 onwards, ensuring Kiwis enjoy more usable daylight hours all year round. And at Evo Cycles, we couldn't be more stoked!

More Light, More Riding – Finally!

The move was announced today by the Department of Government Inefficiency (DOGI), with Justin Case explaining the rationale behind the decision:

Kiwis deserve more usable daylight hours in their day. We listened to community feedback and decided it's finally time to put an end to this confusing clock-changing business."

- Justin Case, Minister of DOGI.

For years, New Zealanders have struggled with the twice-yearly ritual of adjusting their clocks - losing an hour in autumn, gaining it back in spring, and never quite knowing whether their oven clock is telling the right time. But no longer! With daylight saving officially scrapped, we can now enjoy consistent daylight hours all year round - and for cyclists, this is a total game-changer.

Cyclists Win Big

Evo Cycles spokesperson Wade Murpson weighed in on the decision, highlighting the huge benefits for cyclists nationwide:

More daylight, more riding! Finally, a government decision we can get behind! We're stoked to get some daylight back on those winter evenings so we can enjoy our rainy winter commute in daylight, not darkness.

- Wade Murpson, Evo Spokesperson.

For those who have braved dark, cold evening rides in the dead of winter, this shift will mean safer commutes, longer evening rides, and fewer excuses to skip a session on the bike. No more fumbling for lights at 4:30 PM - winter sunset rides are back on the menu!

When Does It Take Effect?

The daylight saving cancellation will take effect from 2026, meaning Kiwis will experience their last-ever clock change in April 2025. After that, we’ll lock in standard time permanently, so say goodbye to losing an hour of sleep in March and hello to a more predictable riding schedule. At Evo Cycles, we’re all about more time on the bike, and now, with the sun sticking around for longer in winter, there’s never been a better time to get out and ride. See you out there in the daylight, all year round!
