The Skid 26 is new for 2021! Bringing top-end features to the kid's bikes at the right price. A Sunrace 8 speed drivetrain, integrated kickstand mount, tapered headset, and progressive trail geometry is unseen in this class making Skid 26 a true BIC offering. Featuring adapted POP geometry as piloted on the Slade, the Skid 26 is a confident descender that handles like a proper trail bike. Silverback Juvenile brake levers on Promax cable disc brake calipers makes for great all weather braking. Skid 26 will get your youngster shredding trails in no time.
The Skid range received major R&D and has been updated to provide better bikes for young riders. Bringing top-end features to kids at the right price for parents. Alloy components, integrated kickstands, suspension forks, as well as an assortment of other features are unseen in the kids bicycle class making the Skid range a true BIC offering.
Hydro-formed 6061 Alloy frame
Across the range, Skid bikes feature class leading frames. Trickle-down technology means that the new frames benefit from our leading platforms. Alloy frame tubes are hydro-formed into complex shapes to increase strength and stiffness, minimizing weight and excess material use - perfect for young riders.
Easy ride geometry
Geometry on our kids bicycles are designed to improve balance and comfort moving the rider in a more natural feeling position. With better balance and more comfort, confidence is improved. This makes for swift riding progression.
Replaceable derailleur hanger
All geared Skid models feature replaceable derailleur hangers. These are readily available from Speedlab.
Lightweight alloy wheels
Across the range, Skids feature lightweight, strong, alloy wheels. This makes for easier pedaling, quicker steering and better handling.
Disc brakes
Disc brakes on selected Skid models offer dependable all weather performance over rim brakes, as well as a lighter feeling lever pull.
Quality suspension forks
Suspension forks on selected Skid models are quality components that are designed around the specific needs of lightweight riders. Light break-away, lightly damped and quick rebound, with very little maintenance requirements (other than keeping it clean) makes these ideal for your young riders.
Kickstand mount
An integrated kickstand mount in the left rear chainstay, makes the addition of a kickstand neat and uncomplicated. 16”, 20” and 24” Skids all come with kickstands.
Cable Routing
Full lengh cable housings mean that the cables require less maintenance and both gears and brakes work better for longer.
Youth Saddles
Silverback Skid saddles are designed to suit young bodies, and we’ve made sure that they offer more durability. These all come in awesome designs to delight young riders.
Low standover
Low standover means that the bike can comfortably be ridden by both male and female riders, giving more room for movement. This improves control and confidence while getting the hang of your bike.
Training wheels
16” Skid bikes come with easily removable lightweight training wheels. This means that your youngster can immediately get riding with the aid of the training wheels, and as their skill and confidence grow, you can remove the training wheels.
1x Drivetrains
Silverback fits 1x drivetrains to as many bikes as we can. 1x offers less maintenance, is more intuitive to use and offers a wider gear range than 3x groupsets. We spec smaller chainrings in favour of climbing prowace and ease of pedaling, over flat terrain top speed. Everyone can benefit from easier climbing.
Size Specific Contact Points
Young riders have different proportions to adult or teen riders, and so our bikes are designed to suit their contact points. Smaller-thinner grips, narrower bars, adjustable brake lever reach, smaller pedals, shorter cranks and kid specific saddles complete our Skid ranges.
Mud Guards
Selected Skids come factory fitted with mudguards. These keep mud and water from the rider’s back.
Chain guards
Chain guards on the 16” Skid keeps your youngster’s feet away from the chain and drive parts.
Durable Decals and paint
Learning riders have more bumps and scratches and thus require more durability on the frame and components. The decals and paint on our Skid bicycles are designed for just that.
Tyre clearance
Skid frames are designed to offer more tyre clearance, and Skids are fitted with higher volume tyres to improve traction and comfort.
Alloy control parts
We fit high quality lightweight anodized alloy control parts. These are lighter than steel counterparts and more durable long term.
