The special orthopaedic foam is thicker and more plush than Ergon's successful SM Series, while the male-specific relief channel prevents soft-tissue numbness and pain. You’ll be comfortable in every position and ready to put the pedal to the metal. Leave saddle discomfort in the dust and enjoy the trails with the SMC Men.

The sensitive nervous system

The deep channel relieves the perineal area, meaning blood flow and oxygen supply are not restricted, which can cause numbness and other impairments. With men, riding numbness mostly occurs due to high pressure in the sensitive perineal area. The external genitals are usually not the cause for discomfort because they can yield and are generally not compressed by bone structures.

Pressure distribution

Optimal pressure distribution is key. The task with male-specific saddles is to keep pressure off the perineal area and transfer the loads to the sit bones and parts of the pubic arch. That is what the relief-surface of the new Ergon Men’s saddles is doing.

Pelvic tilt

The male pelvis is less flexible than the female pelvis, meaning male riders sit more upright and put more strain on the sit bones. This allows the transition zone between the saddle’s fore and aft to be narrower (Y-Shape), creating more pedalling room.

Pubic bone angle

In contrast to the female anatomy the male’s pubic blades stand at a much steeper angle and the pelvic symphysis sits notably higher.

The right size

The shape and size of the saddle must match the sit bone width of the rider to maximise comfort and enjoyment.

The pelvic bone has a unique V-shape and the saddle must offer the sit bones a large contact surface with the ability to meet the demand of different sitting positions. Various saddle widths are offered so that the usable seat surface corresponds to the rider's unique sit bone distance. The more forward and aggressive the rider sits, the further forward the sit bones contact the saddle.
