The Hei Hei CR has everything you need to win the race and win the fun. Kona has completely redesigned its Race Light Carbon frame to be the fastest in the world.
The all-new Hei Hei CR features completely redesigned longer, slacker frame geometry and features 120mm of front and rear travel with a Fox 34 Stepcast fork and Fox EVOL LV rear shock. A Fox Transfer dropper post will have you ready for undulating terrain and a SRAM GX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain provides excellent gearing and shifting.
Kona carbon
Designed to be lightweight and built to demanding standards. Carbon fibre has long been praised for its weight and strength, but rather than chase grams, Kona has placed its efforts on the performance that is possible when the right high-modulus fibres are in the right places. Its designers work closely with the manufacturer to ensure there is no compromise to the desired ride characteristics, durability and – finally – weight stipulations that Kona expects from its bikes.
Internal headset
Bearing cups are pressed into the frame and are easily removable. An internal headset also reduces stack height, so the height of the stem and bars are more adjustable, giving the rider the best fit possible.
Tapered head tube
More girth at the bottom of the head tube better distributes shock force, prolonging the bearing life of the headset and eliminating brake shudder, while providing confident steering performance. The inherent strength of its triangular design also means a stronger steering position and improved balance, giving the rider more control in rough terrain. A zero-stack, tapered head tube also puts strength where the load is going – into the lower headset cup – maximising bearing durability where it’s needed.
Tubeless compatible rims
Tubeless rims allow for tyres with more puncture resistance and offer the ability to run lower tyre pressure, which provides better grip on the trail. They also lower rolling resistance and save weight over traditional tube and tyre systems.
12x148mm axle
12x148 rear axle standards provide two major advantages to the Kona rider: The 12mm diameter provides the rear hub and frame with a stiff interface, while the 148 outer hub diameter allows the wheel to be quickly and properly positioned in the frame before the rear axle is inserted. The 12x148 boost spacing also provides more tyre clearance at the chainstay yoke, while the rear wheel is stiffer and more durable relative to a 12x142 thru-axle.
Fuse independent suspension
The Fuse Independent Suspension is designed to be as lightweight and efficient as possible, oriented specifically for the demands of the modern XC trail rider. Like all of Kona's suspension platforms, the Fuse IS is designed around a single pivot with a predictable leverage ratio for a responsive, snappy feel. Built for Kona's Hei Hei platform, the frame features a seat stay that relies on small degrees of frame flex rather than a pivot at the seat and chainstay junction. The result is an efficient, laterally stiff suspension system that takes weight savings to a new level.
