Race Light 6061 aluminium is custom-butted, giving strength and torsional integrity to the feel of the ride
Maxxis All Terrane tyres keep speed and composure over a wide range of CX race conditions. The knobs dig in when the course gets loose but are speedy on harder surfaces
Hydraulic giver you more power and more modulation letting you brake later and slow down faster.
From cyclocross podiums to crushing the commute
The working man’s privateer steed, the Jake the Snake is the go-to bike for cyclocross racers and hard-core commuters alike. The legendary Jake the Snake features race-driven geometry in a tough yet light aluminium frame and a full carbon flat mount disc fork, and is accompanied by tubeless-ready wheels wrapped with Maxxis All Terrane tyres, a SRAM Apex 1x11 drivetrain and TRP hydraulic disc brakes.
Kona Race Light 6061 aluminium
Kona Race Light 6061 is a lighter, more performance-oriented fabrication of Kona's 6061 tubing. Designed to meet the company's discerning race specifications, Race Light 6061 is custom butted to create thicker tubes at weld areas and important parts of the frame, providing incredible strength and torsional integrity to the feel of the ride. Kona removes wall thickness in other parts of the frameset to lighten up the bike, giving the perfect balance between quickness and stiffness.
Bearing cups are pressed into the frame and are easily removable. An internal headset also reduces stack height, so the height of the stem and bars are more adjustable, giving the rider the best fit possible.
Tapered head tube
More girth at the bottom of the head tube better distributes shock force, prolonging the bearing life of the headset and eliminating brake shudder, while providing confident steering performance. The inherent strength of its triangular design also means a stronger steering position and improved balance, giving the rider more control in rough terrain. A zero-stack, tapered head tube also puts strength where the load is going – into the lower headset cup – maximising bearing durability where it’s needed.
Tubeless compatible rims
Tubeless rims allow for tyres with more puncture resistance and offer the ability to run lower tyre pressure, which provides better grip on the trail. They also lower rolling resistance and save weight over traditional tube and tyre systems.
12x142mm rear axle standards provide two major advantages to the Kona rider: The 12mm diameter provides the rear hub and frame with a stiff interface, while the 142 outer hub diameter allows the wheel to be quickly and properly positioned in the frame before the rear axle is inserted.
