A Kona carbon frame puts the highest emphasis on performance by putting the right fibres in the right places
Highly tuneable and durable, Beamer Independent Suspension recovers quickly from hits
RockShox Lyrik Ultimate fork with RC2 Charger damper, Super Deluxe Ultimate rear shock with RCT damper, and Code RSC brakes
SRAM X01 Eagle 12-speed drivetrain provides the next level of uncompromising performance for enduro racers and aggressive trail riders
Deluxe, gritty and ready to party
The 153 CR DL bikes are Kona’s flagship enduro machines. From punishing EWS race days to party laps at the local trails, the Process 153 CR DL is known for being a seriously fun bike. The carbon chassis is outfitted with an all-new RockShox Lyrik Ultimate fork with the RC2 Charger damper and Super Deluxe Ultimate rear shock with RCT damper to keep the ride smooth. A SRAM X01 12-speed Eagle drivetrain and Code RSC brakes are a perfectly balanced combo of pure shred and pure power.
Designed to be lightweight and built to demanding standards. Carbon fibre has long been praised for its weight and strength, but rather than chase grams, Kona has placed its efforts on the performance that is possible when the right high-modulus fibres are in the right places. Its designers work closely with the manufacturer to ensure there is no compromise to the desired ride characteristics, durability and – finally – weight stipulations that Kona expects from its bikes.
Bearing cups are pressed into the frame and are easily removable. An internal headset also reduces stack height, so the height of the stem and bars are more adjustable, giving the rider the best fit possible.
Tapered head tube
More girth at the bottom of the head tube better distributes shock force, prolonging the bearing life of the headset and eliminating brake shudder, while providing confident steering performance. The inherent strength of its triangular design also means a stronger steering position and improved balance, giving the rider more control in rough terrain. A zero-stack, tapered head tube also puts strength where the load is going – into the lower headset cup – maximising bearing durability where it’s needed.
Tubeless compatible rims
Tubeless rims allow for tyres with more puncture resistance and offer the ability to run lower tyre pressure, which provides better grip on the trail. They also lower rolling resistance and save weight over traditional tube and tyre systems.
12x148 rear axle standards provide two major advantages to the Kona rider: The 12mm diameter provides the rear hub and frame with a stiff interface, while the 148 outer hub diameter allows the wheel to be quickly and properly positioned in the frame before the rear axle is inserted. The 12x148 boost spacing also provides more tyre clearance at the chainstay yoke, while the rear wheel is stiffer and more durable relative to a 12x142 thru-axle.
Beamer Independent Suspension
Built to be off-the-top progressive, Beamer Independent Suspension helps the bike stay higher in the travel and recover from hits more quickly. Designed to be highly tuneable and extremely durable, the Beamer is Kona's version of greased lightning.
The benefits of the 27.5-inch wheel are simple: They roll over obstacles and track better than 26-inch wheels, but are more manoeuvrable and nimble than 29-inch ones.
